Morbihan
Frédéric Romieux will carry the Olympic Torch. This is his story:
Frédéric, a self-employed nurse on the Ile de Groix since 2007, joined the French lifeboat association Société Nationale de Sauvetage en Mer (SNSM) the following year. Since 2010, he is the skipper of the SNSM lifeboat “SNS 147 - Notre Dame du Calme”. His dedication is undeniable: he has carried out no fewer than 1,303 interventions, including 174 rescues and 721 medical evacuations from the island to the hospital in Lorient.
In many of these missions, he was assisted by his wife Aude, a boatperson and first-aider for the SNSM. For his courage and commitment, Frédéric has been awarded the bronze medal for lifesaving and the SNSM badge of honour. Through his daily work, both professionally and at the helm of the SNSL launch, he is one of the guardian angels for the population of the Ile de Groix.
