Emeric Martin will carry the Olympic Torch. Here’s his story:
Emeric has been a member of the French disabled table tennis team for over 20 years since becoming paraplegic in 1992. He has returned to competition with the aim of qualifying for his 5th Paralympic Games, where he hopes to win a 5th medal. Sport has always been his guide, influencing his life and his commitments.
As chairman of a departmental disabled sports committee for over two decades, he strives to integrate people with disabilities into non-disabled organisations. As chairman of a non-disabled professional table tennis club, he has always encouraged people with disabilities to take part in training sessions with non-disabled players in order to break down cultural barriers. Passionate about sport, he has devoted many years to training and excelling in his discipline, which has helped him understand the importance of cooperating with others, playing fairly and pushing your limits.
He has also volunteered his time at French championships and Handi Tour events to raise awareness of para-sports. Emeric is currently in charge of managerial innovation and digital deployment within the commerce division of a French public electricity production and supply company – a partner of the Paris 2024 Games – and is committed to carrying the Olympic Torch with pride, respect and honour. He recognises how important it is to represent Olympic values, and is ready to pass on a positive message throughout his journey. Sensitive to the planet's future, he is involved both internally and externally with initiatives such as The Climate Fresk and with digital technology in general.
