Edith Aubert will carry the Olympic Torch. This is her story:

Edith is a woman who is deeply involved in the voluntary sector, using the energy of sport and teamwork to promote a more caring, inclusive, sustainable and equitable society. Originally from the Vosges, she moved all over France as her husband, a soldier, was transferred to different posts before settling in Chamonix 30 years ago. She has become an important figure in the local Post Office and also manages the cottage belonging to the post office’s sports association.

Now a ski touring instructor, she is also involved in voluntary work, helping young people with their homework at the MJC association and welcoming audiences at concerts. A decade ago, Edith walked through the doors of the local branch of the Secours Populaire charity and is now in charge of its organisation. She has adopted the charity’s motto:

“To intervene in all aspects of human distress and to proclaim that ‘Everything human is ours’”.

Although Edith embodies empathy and generosity on a daily basis, she is careful not to let herself be overwhelmed. She finds her equilibrium with her family and hiking, before returning to the service of others to contribute to a fairer and more united world.
