Clément Garreau will carry the Olympic torch. This is his story:
Clément’s passion for sport shines through in his participation in adapted group activities such as table tennis, judo and swimming. He has excelled in various competitions, climbing from the departmental level to national competitions, and clinched the title of French judo champion a few years back. His medals hold pride of place in his room.
Beyond his athletic endeavours, Clément is an avid spectator of sports events who watches football, tennis, rugby, basketball, cycling, athletics, biathlon and even pétanque, darts and lumberjack competitions on television, online, or live from the sidelines. He keeps a keen eye on the results. Clément, who has Down syndrome, finds his sports knowledge and participation to be a bridge to societal inclusion. For instance, he has learned to pinpoint French cities on a map thanks to their local football clubs. Carrying the Olympic torch will be nothing short of spectacular for him, a memory etched in his heart. Clément bleeds blue, white and red and recognises the significance of being an Olympic torchbearer for his country.
