Val-d'Oise
Brigitte Deydier will carry the Olympic Torch. This is her story:
Brigitte, a renowned former French judoka, left her mark on the discipline. With three world championship titles in 1982, 1984 and 1986, as well as four European championship titles, she distinguished herself on the tatami at international level. Her silver medal at the Olympic Games in 1988 pays witness to her sporting excellence and dedication to her discipline.
After her sporting career came to a close, Brigitte continued her commitment to the world of judo by becoming national technical director of the French Federation of Judo from 2005 to 2009. She was also involved in initiatives to promote the participation of women in sport, notably by participating in a working group on ‘Women and Sport’ in 2003, initiated by the Ministry of Youth, Sport and Associations. As a member of the department's multi-partner committee responsible for selecting Team Val d'Oise athletes, Brigitte continues to contribute to the development of the sport she has always been passionate about. Being chosen to carry the Olympic Torch is a genuine honour for her, years after having retired from the tatami.
