Bénédicte Le Moal will carry the Olympic Torch. Here’s her story:
Bénédicte has chaired the “La Vannetaise” association for over a decade. Every year in October, this organisation puts on a sporting event to raise awareness of women's cancers and collect funds for research. “La Vannetaise” encourages 9,500 women of all ages to take part in the run or walk every year. It has become an unmissable event on the social and medical calendar, bringing together nearly 15,000 people.
Sport has always been an essential part of Bénédicte's life. Her father – a former elite athlete – was a source of inspiration for her. Though he never took part in the Olympic Games – despite being French middle-distance champion – he passed his taste and love of sport onto Bénédicte, and she has shared this passion with her own children in turn. Carrying the Olympic Torch will mean a lot to her on an emotional level. It will be a stirring tribute to her mother, her heroine, who was behind the “La Vannetaise” initiative and who passed away last year. By carrying the Torch, Bénédicte is also paying homage to all the women affected by the disease and underlining the importance of prevention and research in the fight against women's cancer.
