The European Collectivity of Alsace
Almas Amara will carry the Olympic Torch. This is her story:
Almas, who is an engineer and quality manager, has devoted more than 15 years of her life to playing club basketball, reaching regional level. For the last four years, she has been the chairwoman of the basketball section of her sports association, leading a community made up of 510 members. The aim of the association is to become a benchmark in women's sport, with the senior team rising to the pre-national level, while serving as a model for the training of young basketball players.
She also plans to promote new disciplines such as 3-a-side basketball, which is now an Olympic discipline, and micro-basketball for children aged 3 to 5 years old. At the same time, Almas is actively involved in promoting diversity, both in sport and in the workplace. She is the head of the 'Energie Mixité' diversity network within her company and takes part in a mentoring initiative. For her, regardless of gender, skin colour or background, sportspeople all share the same objective: to excel themselves and build something together as a group. For Almas, becoming an Olympic Torchbearer is an opportunity to shine the spotlight on all the people working behind the scenes, such as referees, managers and volunteers, who contribute to the success of sporting events.
