Adrien Renaudin-Chaptal will carry the Olympic Torch. Here’s his story:

Adrien worked alongside the “Vertical Combat” association to launch a project aimed at using sport to raise awareness of spinal cord injuries. The initiative came about after Adrien met the sister of Paul Darbier, a young secondary school student who lost the use of all four limbs after a serious cycling accident. It was after this meeting that Paul's sister founded the association to make people aware of these diseases and accidents affecting the spinal cord. Last year – aged just 16 – Adrien had the chance to contribute to a project set up to help Marie and her friends cycle from Avignon to Gap over 3 days.

Adrien has also been a member of southern France’s Regional Youth Parliament for 2 years, representing around a hundred young people who work together to launch projects aimed at France’s youth, such as the E-Pass Jeunes (equivalent to the Culture Pass for young people in southern France), an anti-bullying charter written into the notebooks of the region's high school students, quizzes on the basics of the European Union, as well as many other initiatives, including sports-based ones.

Adrien has also played club basketball for 7 years, where he has learned the values of sport including equality, teamwork, inclusion and perseverance, which he is keen to share and pass on. Optimistic, determined and passionate about sport, Adrien’s goal is to use the Olympic Torch to represent the youth of his county, region and country on the international stage, becoming the symbolic spokesperson for a hopeful generation!
