The French Swimming Federation is an association governed by the Law of 1901, created on 20 November 1920. Recognised as being in the public interest by a decree of 7 July 1932, it brings together, at national, regional and local levels, bodies that share the common goal of promoting, developing and structuring swimming activities, for which it has approval reinforced by a public service delegation.
These activities, which include swimming races, open water swimming, ice water swimming, artistic swimming, water polo and diving, have a combined membership of just over 400,000.
The Torch Relay is an unprecedented opportunity for the Federation to highlight the values of Olympism that it shares, while at the same time offering members from the areas through which the Torch will pass a chance to take part in the exceptional event that will be the Olympic and Paralympic Games Paris 2024.
Team Relay in Sarcelles, July 19.
The Christiane and Guy Canzano Intercommunal Aquatics Centre in Sarcelles is an historic venue in French swimming. While the pool has seen dozens of top-level swimmers come and go for many decades, its social role for the young people of Sarcelles is vital, as it is a place where many swimming academy programmes are run.
The Olympic Torch Relay will be an opportunity to showcase the diversity of French swimming disciplines and the Sauv'nage programme.
To carry this Flame is to carry tolerance. The possibility of surpassing ourselves together, with respect and kindness. To carry this Flame is to carry hope, sharing and acceptance. To carry this Flame is to carry Love. And for me, an immense honour.
For the first time in the history of the Games, each day of the Olympic Torch Relay and Paralympic Torch Relay, relay teams of 24 people, made up of champions, everyday athletes, volunteers, referees, coaches, etc. will be organized to spread the energy of sport and teamwork throughout the country.
