The French Gymnastics Federation (FFGym), founded in 1873, is recognised as being of public interest. With the support of the Ministry of Sport and the help of its partners, it contributes to the development of several sports disciplines (men's and women's artistic gymnastics, rhythmic gymnastics, trampolining, tumbling, aerobic gymnastics and acrobatic gymnastics) and Gymnastics for All. Four of these disciplines are represented at the Olympic Games (men’s and women’s artistic gymnastics, rhythmic gymnastics and trampolining).
To support the growth of its associations, the Federation is committed to employment, training and the organisation of the "Sports Excellence Pathway", involving clubs in the training of elite gymnasts.
There are more than 325,000 members in 1,400 clubs, 23 France & Espoir [France & Hope] centres, 18 regional committees (including five in French overseas departments and regions), 98 departmental committees, 113 gymnasts in the French national team, 6,619 instructors, 75 state managers, 13,700 judges and thousands of volunteers!
Just like the Olympic Flame, the French Gymnastics Federation creates links across the country, bringing together 325,000 members in 1,400 clubs in mainland France and the French over- seas regions. We are proud to be part of this Relay that will travel across our country before reaching Paris.
Team Relay in Poitiers, June 12.
Réunion Island is a land of gymnasts. We will be lucky enough to be competing in a magnificent setting, and we are going to try to make our mark with an original and highly visual Relay. The leader will be Elvire Teza, champion of the French team and the first Frenchwoman to reach an Olympic final in artistic gymnastics. She took part in the Olympic Games Atlanta 1996 and Sydney 2000.
This is a fantastic event for Réunion Island. The route of the Flame will be an opportunity to showcase the island to the whole world. I will have the privilege of leading the ‘procession’ for gymnastics. Réunion is a land of gymnasts. My 23 team-mates and I will be thinking of all our current and past champions, who have enabled French gymnastics to shine on the international stage.
For the first time in the history of the Games, each day of the Olympic Torch Relay and Paralympic Torch Relay, relay teams of 24 people, made up of champions, everyday athletes, volunteers, referees, coaches, etc. will be organized to spread the energy of sport and teamwork throughout the country.
