The French Fencing Federation (FFESCRIME) currently has 55,000 members in 850 clubs throughout France. Fencing is the French sport with the most medals at the Olympic Games, a total of 123.
Performance is a value that is deeply rooted in our culture: the Olympic Torch Relay symbolises our attachment to the values of Olympism, which encourage people to share and to surpass themselves.
We are proud to take part in the Torch Relay: its journey is all the more symbolic because it will be shared by everyone, demonstrating our unity right down to our clubs, with all our fencers taking part in this great celebration! The Flame is something to be shared and celebrated, and our athletes and members of the fencing family will be honoured to carry it to its most eagerly awaited desti- nation in 2024, Paris.
Team Relay in Montignac-Lascaux, May 22.
The Lascaux IV site is a key part of France's heritage, reflecting the historic nature of fencing in a department where all the weapons of the sport are represented through the clubs. The Olympic Torch Relay will showcase the three Olympic weapons, sabre, foil and épée, as well as artistic fencing and the laser sabre, in an exceptional setting. Passing through key locations on the Lascaux IV site, the flame will be celebrated by fencing enthusiasts. The replica of the famous cave will be crossed by Paolo, a young épée fencer, who is involved in his club as a fencer and referee, and who is dedicated to passing on his passion. He will hold up the flame as captain of this Relay.
For the first time in the history of the Games, each day of the Olympic Torch Relay and Paralympic Torch Relay, relay teams of 24 people, made up of champions, everyday athletes, volunteers, referees, coaches, etc. will be organized to spread the energy of sport and teamwork throughout the country.
