India’s Krittwika Roy and Yashaswini Ghorpade won the women’s doubles title at the WTT Feeder Cagliari 2024 table tennis tournament in Italy on Sunday.

Playing at the PalaPirastu, Krittwika Roy and Yashaswini Ghorpade beat the Republic of Korea’s Yoo Siwoo and Kim Haeun 3-1 (11-9, 9-11, 14-12, 11-2) in the final to capture the crown.

En route to the title match, the Indian table tennis players, seeded second in the tournament, beat the Italian team of Arianna Barani and Maria Picu 3-0 in the first round before downing Japan’s Sachi Aoki and Sakura Yokoi by the same scoreline in the quarter-finals.

The duo earned its place in the final with a 3-1 win over German fourth seeds Sophia Klee and Franziska Schreiner.

Ghorpade also made the semi-finals of the mixed doubles event with Harmeet Desai. The Indian top seeds, however, bowed out following a 3-0 loss to local pair John Oyebode and Gaia Monfardini - the fourth seeds who eventually went on to win the title.

In women’s singles, Ghorpade’s run ended in the round of 16 following a loss to South Korea’s Lee Daeun after she ousted compatriot Krittwika in the second round.

Harmeet Desai made it all the way to the quarters in the men’s singles event before suffering a shock loss against Malta’s Amirreza Abbasi, who made the main draw through the qualifiers.
