The 2022/23 World Rugby Sevens Series is headed to Los Angeles, USA, on 25-26 February for the latest round of men’s rugby 7s action.
Standings leaders New Zealand seem to be getting better with every tournament but with five stars missing for this stop, they may struggle to maintain the form that saw them win in Sydney.
A window of opportunity has therefore opened for resurgent South Africa, who found some form to finish second in Australia and sit just nine points behind the leaders in second place.
Samoa are also a team to watch given their improved consistency this season, while an improved third-place finish last time out means that double Olympic champions and World Cup winners Fiji will be a threat.
Reigning series champions Australia have struggled for consistency this season, but their playmaker Dietrich Roache remains one of the most dangerous attacking players with 161 points scored this season to sit second overall in the standings.
In top spot - and one to certainly keep an eye out for - is All Blacks Sevens flyer Akuila Rokolisoa, while Fiji's Manueli Maisamoa, who tops the offloads charts with 29, is sure to provide another creative masterclass.
Elsewhere, South Africa's Blitzbokke will be able to call upon the firepower of experienced 15s winger Travis Ismaiel.
Remember, there is even more to play for this season with the teams ranked 1-4 at the end of the 2022/23 world series automatically qualifying for the Paris 2024 Olympics.
