World Para Athletics Grand Prix: Simran Kaur, Devender Kumar, Neeraj Yadav take India's gold tally to four
Simran clinched the gold medal in the women's 100m T13 final after clocking 12.74 seconds.
Indian para athletes continued to put up a fine display at the 12th Fazza International World Para Athletics Grand Prix as they bagged five medals, including two golds, on day two. This comes after India won two gold medals on the opening day.
Simran Kaur clinched the gold medal in the women's 100m T13 final after clocking 12.74 seconds. Incidentally, it was her second international medal after the China Grand Prix in 2019.
"It feels very good to finally compete internationally. Almost after two years, I was competing in an event. Though I had felt some pain in my hamstring; this is a recurring injury," the visually impaired athlete was quoted as saying by IANS.
"For the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games, I am targeting 11.40secs. I will work harder to better my timing now," she added.
Neeraj Yadav, meanwhile, hurled the discus a distance of 35.49m to bag the top podium spot in men's discus throw F55.
Indian para-athletes Praveen Kumar (5.95m) and Pardeep (5.73m) bagged the second and third positions respectively in the men's long jump final to a silver and a bronze to the country's tally.
Bhagyashri Mahavir Jadhav, meanwhile, claimed the bronze medal in women's Javelin F34 with a throw of 11.36m.
The performance on the second day comes after Devender Kumar and Nimisha Suresh Chakkungalparambil clinched gold medals in their respective events on the opening day.
Devender hurled the discus to a distance of 50.61m in his second attempt to take the gold in Men's Discus throw F44 event while Nimisha clinched the top podium spot with a jump of 5.25m in Women's F46/47 events
