World championships silver medalist Manju Rani and two-time youth world champion Sakshi Chaudhary progressed to the quarter-finals of the Women’s National Boxing Championships 2023 in Greater Noida on Monday.
Competing at the GBU Indoor Stadium in Greater Noida, defending champion Manju Rani showcased her experience and skills against Guddi to secure a 5-0 victory in the 48kg category. The Indian boxer is now set to face Sanjana in the quarter-finals.
Sakshi Chaudhary, fighting in the 57kg category, defeated Refa Mohid in the round of 16. Sakshi's aggressive approach and precise punches resulted in an RSC (referee stopped contest) in the first round of the bout. Sakshi Chaudhary will go head-to-head against Aarti Mehra of Chandigarh in the quarter-finals.
The 63kg division saw Shashi Chopra continue her title defence with a win over Aarti Dariyal in the quarter-finals. Shashi secured the victory with a unanimous decision and will face Sonu for a spot in the semi-finals.
Meanwhile, Asian championships bronze medallist Ankushita Boro was up against Vanlalhriatpuii in the 66kg match. Ankushita dominated the proceedings throughout and ultimately won the bout by a unanimous 5-0 decision. Ankushita Boro, who won the silver medal at the last edition of the national championships, will face Anjali Tushir in the quarter-finals.
Over 300 boxers are competing across 12 weight categories at the seventh edition of the women’s national boxing championships. The finals will be held on Wednesday.
