Commonwealth Games 2022 bronze medalist Jaismine (60kg), reigning world champion Saweety Boora (80kg) and former youth world champion Arundhati Choudhary (66kg) cruised into the quarter-finals of the Women’s National Boxing Championships 2023 in Greater Noida on Sunday.
At the GBU Indoor Stadium, Indian boxer Jaismine showcased her experience as she secured a commanding 5-0 victory over Thongam Kunjarani Devi in the round of 16 bout. Jaismine will face Poonam Kaithwas in the quarters.
Saweety Boora went up against Kanishka in an exciting contest. The 2023 World Championship gold medallist defeated her opponent with the referee stopping the contest (RSC) in round 3. Saweety will face Saie Davkhar in the quarter-finals.
Meanwhile, former youth world champion Arundhati Choudhary dominated Amita to secure a 5-0 victory in the bout. The boxer will be up against Komalpreet Kaur in the last eight.
Sakshi (57kg) faced Jyoti in the round of 32 match. In a closely contested bout, Sakshi unleashed a flurry of punches, ultimately winning the bout as the referee stopped the contest (RSC) in the third round. She will face off against Refa Mohid in the round of 16.
Over 300 boxers are competing across 12 weight categories at the seventh edition of the women’s national boxing championships. The finals will be held on December 27.
