The excitement continues to build for the Winter Youth Olympic Games Gangwon 2024.
Around 1,900 young athletes from approximately 80 countries will take part in the event from 19 January - 1 February as the Republic of Korea becomes the first Asian nation to host the winter edition of the Games.
The host country will be looking to unearth the next Yung Sung-bin , Choi Mingjeong, or Yuna Kim. with the three Olympic champions serving as ambassadors and inspiring the next generation of athletes.
The Games will feature many venues that were used for the Olympic Games PyeongChang 2018, including the Alpensia Ski Jumping Centre in PyeongChang and the Gangneung Olympic Park in the coastal cluster.
A total of 15 disciplines across seven sports will be on display with an equal representation of males and females.

Gangwon 2024 - Stars to watch
Lara Colturi, alpine skiing (Albania)
The daughter of Italian Olympic champion Daniela Ceccarelli, switched allegiances to Albania in 2022 before becoming one of the youngest World Cup debutants ever, eventually finishing in the top-30 five times.
At the Junior World Championships in St. Anton, she became the youngest-ever gold medallist with victory in Super G, before claiming bronze in Giant Slalom.
Following a severe knee injury suffered in training at the Worlds in Courchevel-Meribel, the talented youngster has resumed racing in World Cup this season collecting two top-15 finishes.
Shin Jia, figure skating (South Korea)
Shin has already established herself, winning the Korean national title in 2023.
She is the two-time and reigning world junior silver medallist, and this season has captured both the JGPs she’s competed in: Austria and Hungary.
Her silver at Worlds in 2022 made her just the second Korean to win a junior world medal – the first being Kim Yuna (2005).
Shimada Mao, figure skating (Japan)
The 15-year-old, who was named after Vancouver 2010 Olympic silver medallist Asada Mao, has recently defended her junior women's title at the Grand Prix Final 2023 in Beijing, where she finished in front of Shin.
The Kyoto native is also a two-time national champion.
Flora Tabanelli, freestyle skiing (Italy)
Freestyle skier Tabanelli became the first female Italian junior world champion in 2023 with gold in big air, to go with her slopestyle silver.
In December the 16-year-old from Emilia achieved her first senior World Cup podium in Beijing.
The history-maker is being touted as a potential home star of the Winter Olympics Milano-Cortina 2026, and has been given the honour of carrying Italy’s flag at the Gangwon 2024 Opening Ceremony.
Lee Chae-un, freestyle snowboarding (South Korea)
Aged only 16, last year he was crowned Republic of Korea's first-ever snowboard halfpipe champion in Bakuriani, Georgia.
A Bejing 2022 Olympian, Lee has continued to showcase his skills at this year's World Cup stops at Secret Garden and Copper Mountain, finishing on the podium on both occasions.
Daxon Rudolph, ice hockey (Canada)
The 15-year-old was the first overall pick in the 2023 Western Hockey League Prospect Draft.
Named the Top Defender in the Canadian Sport School Hockey League (CSSHL) last season, Rudolph is continuing to post impressive stats in the league while featuring on occasion for the Prince Albert Raiders of the WHL.
