Winter X Games Aspen 2023 Day 3: Double gold for Oldham, McMorris makes history, Forehand earns perfect score and Wise makes it five
Two Canadians ended up on top of the podiums at the start of the final day while two Americans finished on top to close out an exhilarating three days of competition at Buttermilk Mountain.
Megan Oldham won back-to-back golds at the Winter X Games Aspen 2023 after finishing on top of the podium in the women's freestyle skiing slopestyle competition.
The Canadian's confidence going into the event was at an all-time high after she won gold in big air on Day 1 of these X Games. Oldham's second run was the decider as she combined clean rail execution with two double corks and an alley-oop rodeo 720.
She was joined by Switzerland’s Mathilde Gremaud (silver) and Team GB's Kirsty Muir (bronze) on the podium. Muir, the 18-year-old from Aberdeen, had an especially memorable X Games in Aspen as she also won bronze in big air.
Men's snowboard slopestyle: McMorris breaks X Games medal record with gold
Canada's Mark McMorris added to his wildly impressive X Games resume with a gold medal in the snowboard slopestyle, taking him to 22 all-time medals, the most of any athlete in history.
McMorris' experience showed as he defended his X Games slopestyle gold, overtaking Norway's Marcus Kleveland on his fourth and final run of the day.
Kleveland was in third heading into his final run and he finished with an impressive cab 1620 to round out a performance that saw him move into first place momentarily, although McMorris would have the final say.
Kleveland, who won his third consecutive gold in the big air competition the night before, was joined by fellow Norwegian Mons Roisland on the podium. Roisland saved his best run for last as well as he finished with the bronze.
Men's freestyle skiing big air: Forehand puts down perfect score to win gold
It was always going to take a seismic effort to beat Birk Ruud in big air, and that's exactly what USA's Mac Forehand brought to the table to finish with the gold.
The 21-year-old pulled off a 2160 in his final run to earn the second perfect score of the weekend, following on from Megan Oldham's performance in big air on Friday. The Connecticut native capped off a memorable X Games after he finished with the silver medal in slopestyle the day before.
Ruud actually finished with the bronze as Canada's Teal Harle had a remarkable night as well, putting down a 47 and 49 in runs two and four.
Men's freestyle skiing superpipe: Wise makes it five
David Wise - the oldest athlete at X Games Aspen 2023 - proved that age is just a number as he took home his fifth superpipe gold medal to round out another exhilarating event.
The man from Reno, Nevada was hungry to return to the top after winning silver at Beijing 2022 and he brought the consistency, amplitude and execution that has seen him remain at the pinnacle of the sport for so long.
Wise was joined by fellow American Birk Irving (silver) and Finland's Jon Sallinen (bronze), who was making his X Games debut, on the podium. Irving followed on from his sister Svea, who won the bronze in the women's superipe the day before, while the 22-year-old Sallinen became the first Finnish athlete to medal in superpipe.
Meanwhile, Aspen native and two-time superpipe champion Alex Ferreira took two major falls in his first two runs that saw him elect to pass on attempting his final two runs.
