PV Sindhu is undoubtedly one of India's brightest medal hopes in the ongoing Olympics in badminton. She is currently ranked seventh in the world and is seeded sixth at the ongoing Tokyo Olympics. She has been placed in Group J along with Israels's Ksenia Polikarpova and Cheung Ngan Yi of Hong Kong.

She was in fine form in her first match against Polikarpova whom she defeated in straight games. In her next match on Wednesday morning, she will be playing against Cheung.

Sindhu is the lone representative from India in women's singles and is vying for gold after she lost in the final at the Rio Olympics in 2016.

She has always put her best foot forward in tournaments that matter like the World Championships and the Olympics. In Rio, she defeated a slew of superstars like Tai Tzu-Ying and second seed Wang Yihan to make a place for herself in the finals. However, she was gutted after she had to concede the gold to Spain's Carolina Marin.

This time she will once again face some of the biggest names in badminton but her record against most is heartening that will assure her fans in India.

Who has Sindhu defeated the most number of times?

Japan's Akane Yamaguchi is Sindhu's most vanquished opponent. The two players have met 18 times on the court and Sindhu has won 11 of them. She defeated Yamaguchi in almost all major tournaments like the Superseries Finals, BWF World Championships, and in the Asian Games. However in the Indonesia Open final in 2019, she lost to her in straight games and then fell to her in the BWF World Tour Finals in 2019. She is likely to go up against her in the quarterfinals in the Olympics.

However, her best head-to-head record is against former Indonesian player Lindaweni Fanetri who boasts of a bronze medal in the World Championship and the Asian Games. She has faced her 10 times and has won on eight occasions.

She also boasts of a positive win difference against Nozomi Okuhara, another medal contender at the Tokyo Games. They have locked horns 17 times and Sindhu has managed to win nine matches.

However, her record against Tai Tzu-Ying is something to worry about. She has won just five times out of 18 matches and there is a possibility that she can face the Hong Kong shuttler in the semifinals at Tokyo.
