Olympic champion Wayde van Niekerk continued his push for a fifth South African track and field athetics title by winning his men's 400m semi-final on Saturday, 1 April.
The world record holder dominated his semi at the 2023 national championships in 44.95 seconds, after comfortably winning his heat on Thursday. The race had been delayed from Friday due to weather delays. The final takes place later on Saturday.
World U20 champion Lythe Pillay won the other semi in blue skies and sunshine at the McArthur Stadium in Potchefstroom, clocking a personal best 44.94.
