Indoor volleyball has been a regular Southeast Asian Games sport since the 1977 edition, barring the 1999 event.

Eight nations are taking part in both men’s and women’s editions at SEA Games 2023; they are hosts Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.

Two groups of four teams play a round-robin format with the top two from each group playing in the semi-final and finals. Matches will also be played for positions five to eight.

The indoor volleyball events will be held from 3 to 14 May 2023 at the Indoor Main Hall at the Olympic Complex in Phnom Penh.

Alyssa Valdez, who is playing in her fifth straight Southeast Asian Games, will captain the Philippines' women's team for the first time in an effort to claim a podium place after an 18-year drought. The side has come fourth in the past three editions. Thailand are 13-time consecutive winners while Vietnam have claimed silver in the past 10 of 11 editions.

In the men's event, Indonesia and Thailand have shared the spoils since 1985 with Indonesia claiming 10 titles to Thailand's eight. Indonesia have won the previous two editions.
