A week on from being hospitalised, the USA Gymnastics team therapy dog Beacon returned home on Monday (9 September) after a health scare.
The friendly canine, who provided support during the U.S. Olympic trials, suffered from stiffness, laboured breathing and a fever which led to needing medical attention.
Beacon’s owner, Tracey Callahan Molnar, shared an update on Instagram about him.
“Beacon is home!! He’s home!!” she wrote, revealing that professionals found fluid in his chest cavity.
“Beacon is producing far less fluid likely because of meds, so that is trending in a good direction while we are still awaiting a diagnosis.
“Thank you to everyone at @truecareforpets who has had a part in caring for [him].”
USA Gymnastics posted a link to a GoFundMe page which is raising funds to aid Beacon’s recovery. It has raised almost $30,000 US so far.
“We’re wishing Good Boy Beacon a speedy recovery!” they said.
The golden retriever is USAG’s first therapy dog, receiving his credentials for the Olympic trials in June.
