Rising golf star Tvesa Malik records best result yet in Switzerland
Tvesa Malik was rewarded for being consistent in all three rounds of the Flumserberg Ladies Open golf tournament, a stepping stone to Ladies European Tour.
Tvesa Malik carded an impressive eight under 208 (three-under 69 in the first two rounds and two-under 70 in the third) to finish tied-fourth at the Flumserberg Ladies Open at the Gams-Werdenberg Golf Club in Switzerland
It was Malik’s best result at an international pro event, bettering her tied-sixth at the Women’s Indian Open, a Ladies European Tour event, last year.
The 54-hole Flumserberg Ladies Open, that saw 82 starters, is a part of the Ladies European Tour Access Series (LETAS), in which the top golfer at the end earns an LET membership for 2021.
Tvesa Malik, who secured her first-ever top 20 finish outside India at the Czech Open last week, picked up right from where she left last weekend.
Teeing up from hole one in the first round on Friday, the 24-year-old Tvesa carded a bogey in the par-four second but recovered splendidly hitting four birdies on the fifth, 11th, 16th and 17th holes to end the day tied-fifth with a three-under 69.
The second day started poorly for the Indian golfer with a double bogey on the par-four first. Tvesa Malik, though, came back swinging immediately with a hat-trick of birdies. She hit one more in the final hole of the front nine to end the half two-under 36.
In the back nine, Tvesa carded three birdies but dropped a shot each in the 15th and 18th to finish the second round with an identical scoreline to the first.
Tied-sixth and trailing the leader Stina Resen by three shots heading into the final round, Tvesa was in with a shot to win her first professional title outside her home country.
Starting from the 10th on the final day, Tvesa Malik began with a bogey. She fought back with birdies in the par-four 14th and par-five 18th.
The Indian put on a solid display in the front-nine, holding pars on eight holes and carding a birdie on the third.
Tvesa’s eight-under, however, wasn’t enough for the trophy as she finished tied-fourth alongside Finland’s Tiia Koivisto.
Koivisto’s Finnish compatriot Sanna Nuutinen clinched the title after edging out Norway’s Stina Resen via a sudden-death playoff after both finished with 12 under-par after three rounds.
France’s Agathe Sauzon finished third with a nine under-par 207.
The result will be a big boost for Tvesa Malik heading into the main tour’s Swiss Ladies Open event next week.
Diksha Dagar finishes tied-47
Tvesa Malik’s Indian compatriot Diksha Dagar, meanwhile, finished tied-47th at Flumserberg Open after carding a total of eight-over 224.
Diksha scored one-over 73 in the first round and a two-over 74 in the second.
The Indian struggled in the final round, as Diksha carded only two birdies and a whopping seven bogeys to finish with a five-over 77.
