Türkiye are the new number one team in the FIVB women's world rankings, after clinching their first ever Women’s Volleyball Nations League title
Head coach Daniele Santarelli’s team started the Nations League ranked seventh in the world, and they qualified for the Finals week after finishing fifth in the Preliminary Phase.
In the quarter-final, Italy came up short against the Turkish, who claimed a straight-setter. In the semi-final, Türkiye knocked out the hosts United States 3-1 in Arlington, Texas, before collecting the ultimate triumph beating China 3-1 in the battle for gold.
Poland won the bronze medal, beating the United States to clinch first ever medal in the Women Volleyball Nations League.
The VNL also awarded a bunch of ranking points. Türkiye have now overtaken the Americans by 7.19 points and reached a total of 365.64. Italy are ranked third 11.23 points behind the new VNL champions.
The FIVB rankings can also count towards qualification berths for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
The men's VNL Finals begin on Wednesday, 19 July.
