India will be one of the four teams at the Turkish Women's Cup 2024 football tournament, which will be held in Alanya, Turkey, from February 21 to 27.
The Indian women’s football team starts its campaign against Estonia on Wednesday. All matches will be live streamed in India.
India, 65th in the FIFA rankings, is the best-ranked team at the Turkish Women's Cup 2024. World No. 79 Hong Kong China, Estonia, the world No. 98, and Kosovo, ranked 100th, are the other three teams in the tournament.
Kosovo were joint winners of the 2023 edition alongside Slovenia.
This year’s tournament will follow a single-legged round-robin format, where all teams play each other once. Once all the matches are over, the table topper is declared the winner.
The Turkish Women's Cup, an annual invitational football tournament, has been running since 2017. This will be the Indian women's football team’s third appearance in the competition after 2019, when India finished sixth, and 2021.
The Alanya meet will also be the first test for Langam Chaoba Devi as the new head coach of the senior Indian women’s hockey team.
Chaoba Devi, who has represented India at the Asian Games and the AFC Women's Championships as a player, will take over the reins after former head coach Thomas Dennerby left the post.
Heading into the tournament, the Indian women’s team underwent a 10-day training camp in Bhubaneswar, after which the 23-member Indian squad for the upcoming tournament was named.
