There was to be no magical farewell for Allyson Felix on the opening day of the track and field World Athletics Championships Oregon22 in Eugene, USA, on Friday (15 July).

The American legend did win a 19th World Championships medal as part of the U.S. bronze-medal mixed 4x400m relay team, but was denied gold as the Americans were overtaken on the finishing straight by both Dominican Republic and Netherlands.

Earlier in the day, Kimberly García Léon won Peru's first World Championships medal of any colour – a gold – in the women's 20km walk, before Yamanishi Toshikazu led home a Japanese one-two in the men's race.
