Astrid Øyre Slind made it two consecutive stage wins in the 2024/25 Tour de Ski in Toblach on Wednesday (1 January 2025) to take the overall lead.

Slind was first away in the 15km classic pursuit, but was soon joined at the front by four-time Olympic gold medallist Therese Johaug. The two Norwegians worked together to build a healthy advantage on the rest.

Behind, Kerttu Niskanen and Victoria Carl were skiing alone with overnight leader Jessie Diggins in fifth along with Heidi Weng and Katherine Stewart-Jones.

Before the final lap, Diggins was over 90 seconds behind the lead pair and continued to lose time on the uphill sections. By the finish, she was 2:08 down on Slind who outsprinted Johaug for the stage win.

Slind, Johaug and Niskanen all moved ahead of Diggins in the overall standings with the U.S. star now a minute off the lead. However, she is the best sprinter of the four and will hope to revive her tour hopes in Friday's classic sprint in Val di Fiemme.

This is a breakthrough season for Slind who has three World Cup wins in as many weeks having never previously topped the podium in 16 years on the circuit.

Reigning men's champion Harald Østberg Amundsen won the men's race but lost time overall on his rivals who started after him. Sweden's Edvin Anger, known primarily as a sprinter, took an excellent second place to go second overall behind Johannes Høsflot Klæbo who crossed the line in third.

Klæbo now leads Anger by 36 seconds with Amundsen a further 21 seconds as the athletes head to Val di Fiemme for the final three stages.
