Tokyo Olympics, wrestling: Anshu Malik eyes bronze redemption in women’s 57kg - watch live

Indian wrestler Anshu Malik will be in search of a bronze medal in the women’s 57kg freestyle wrestling through the repechage rounds at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics on Thursday.

A repechage round allows a wrestler who was beaten by an eventual finalist another chance at an Olympic medal.

On her Games debut, Anshu Malik was beaten in the Round of 16 by Belarus’ Iryna Kurachkina.

However, Kurachkina went on to make the final later - which allowed Anshu Malik a second shot at a medal. Wrestling offers two bronze medals per weight category at the Olympics.

In the first repechage round, Anshu Malik will be up against Rio 2016 silver-medallist Valeria Koblova of ROC, who lost in the quarter-finals to Kurachkina.

If she wins that bout, the Indian wrestler will grapple with Bulgaria’s Evelina Georgieva Nikolova, who Kurachkina beat in the semis.

Nikolova is a world championships bronze-medallist and a silver-medallist at the European Championships.
