What’s happening?
The day's weightlifting event gets underway at 11:50 (local) with the qualification rounds for women's 87kg and +87kg, followed by the finals of these two weight classes.
Who should I expect to see?
Spanish weightlifter Lidia Valentin Perez is looking to upgrade her Rio 2016 bronze medal to gold at Tokyo 2020 where she will now be competing in this new Olympic weight category (87kg). But she will be going head to head against 2018 world champion WANG Zhouyu of the People's Republic of China and other newcomers on the Olympic scene, the likes of Mattie Rogers from the United States and Kanah Andrews-Nahu from New Zealand.
European champion Sarah Fischer of Austria hopes to build on her previous successes to win her first Olympic medal for her country in the +87kg division. She will face stiff competition from the likes of LI Wenwen of China and 2018 Commonwealth bronze medallist Emily Campbell of Great Britain.
