Ticket designs for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games were unveiled by the Organising Committee on Wednesday (15 January).

There are 59 types for the Olympic Games, 25 for the Paralympic Games using ancient color schemes for kimonos during the Heian Period (794-1185).

Delivery of the tickets will begin in May.

Each ticket features pictograms of a sport and the corresponding venue. Sport pictograms were introduced to the Olympic Games at Tokyo's first Games in 1964.

The tickets will be colour-coded by venue and the host city of an event.

The four colours that are used - red, blue, purple and green - reflect the natural colours of each of Japan's four seasons.

The tickets will be on public display, free of charge, at an exhibition at Tokyo's Nihonbashi Mitsui Tower until 29 January.

"We are very proud of the design of the Tokyo 2020 tickets, embodying as it does Japanese traditions and skills, and we hope they will please both Japanese and international spectators at the Tokyo 2020 Games", said Tokyo 2020 Spokesperson Masa Takaya.

"These tickets will not just be the door-opener to the venues for them; they will become memorabilia that they will cherish long after the Games come to an end.”
