Tokyo 2020 tennis day 8: Women's singles gold and bronze-medal matches feature on busy day at Ariake Tennis Park
More tennis hardware will be handed out on this day than any other as all three medals will be earned in women's singles, as well as the bronze-medal matches for men's singles, women's doubles and mixed doubles.
What’s happening?
It's the busiest day for tennis medals during Tokyo 2020 at the Ariake Tennis Park, with the women's singles gold-medal match as the marquee event. Additionally, bronze-medal matches will take place for four disciplines: Women's singles, men's singles, women's doubles and mixed doubles on Saturday (31 July).
Who should I expect to see?
Switzerland's Belinda Bencic will be targeting a rare tennis golden double after she reached the final of both the women's singles and doubles finals.
Bencic continues Switzerland's good recent run at the Olympics, where the nation has won medals at every Games since 2008.
But first, Bencic will have to find her way around the Czech Republic's Marketa Vondrousova in the singles final before she can set her sights on doubles glory.
Vondrousova knocked out local hero Naomi Osaka and beat fourth seed Elina Svitolina of Ukraine in the semifinal en route to the final.
Kazakhstan's Elena Rybakina will take on Elina Svitolina of Ukraine in the women's singles bronze-medal match.
The day's action will include the curtain-raiser, the men's singles bronze-medal match between Serbian superstar Novak Djokovic and Spain's Pablo Carreno Busta.
Djokovic will be looking to bow out of the Olympics tennis tournament with two third-place finishes, also featuring in the mixed doubles bronze-medal match with partner Nina Stojanovic. They will face world number one Ashleigh Barty and John Peers of Australia.
In the penultimate match of the day, the ROC's Veronika Kudermetova and Elena Vesnina go up against Brazil's Laura Pigossi and Luisa Stefani in the battle for the third spot on the podium in the women's doubles.
