The men's singles competition in table tennis comes to an exciting conclusion at the Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium on the seventh day of the sport. Here’s everything you need to know about the men's singles table tennis final at Tokyo 2020 on 30 July 2021.
What’s happening ?
Just one session of table tennis is on tap today, with two matches scheduled: the men's bronze- and gold-medal games. The session starts at 8pm local time.
Who should I expect to see?
Since Beijing 2008, athletes from the People's Republic of China have won every gold medal in singles competition heading into Tokyo 2020. MA Long of China has won three gold medals: two in the team event and the men's singles at Rio 2016.
If he wins gold, MA would become the most-decorated male table tennis Olympian ever, and tie the record of compatriots DENG Yaping, WANG Nan, and ZHANG Yining on four gold medals.
In an all-China final, MA will face compatriot FAN Zhendong, who is the Nanjing 2014 Youth Olympic Games champion, looking to make his own mark on the Games.
