What’s happening?

Sport climbing has made its Olympic debut at Tokyo 2020 and the men will be awarded their hardware first, with a single set of medals being earned from combined scores from the three disciplines: speed climbing, bouldering and lead climbing.

Who should I expect to see?

The evening time action will get underway from 17:30 local time at the Aomi Urban Sports Park, with final rounds being held first in speed climbing, then bouldering, and then lead climbing. Scores from those three event placements for the climbers will then produce one set of medallists.

Frenchman Mickael Mawem leads a field of eight athletes into the final of the men's combined competition, with local favourite NARASAKI Tomoa qualifying as the second-best ranked climber. NARASAKI won the men's combined world title in front of a home crowd in Hachioji in 2019.
