Indian archer Deepika Kumari’s quest for a maiden Olympic medal continued as she bowed out of the Tokyo Olympics after losing 6-0 to top seed An San of South Korea in the women’s individual archery event.
The 20-year-old An San had earlier won the mixed team archery gold and the women’s team gold at Tokyo 2020.
The conditions were a little less windy at the Yumenoshima Park Archery Field than in the morning.
An San won the first set with three 10s, beating Deepika Kumari’s two 10s and a 7.
The South Korean soon took the second set 26-24, shooting 10, 9, 7 to Deepika Kumari’s 10, 7, 7.
Deepika Kumari, a three-time Olympian, then shot 24 (7, 8, 9) but An San shot 26 (8, 9, 9) to take the third set and win the match.
World No. 1 Deepika Kumari had earlier beaten two-time Olympic silver-medallist Ksenia Perova of ROC 6-5 in a shootoff in the round of 16.
The loss brought an end to Deepika Kumari’s campaign at Tokyo 2020 - she had earlier also been eliminated in the mixed team archery event alongside Pravin Jadhav by eventual champions South Korea.
Deepika Kumari’s husband Atanu Das is the only remaining Indian archer at the Olympics - he progressed to the men’s individual round of 16.
