What’s happening?

The flatwater of the Sea Forest Waterway will produce its first canoe sprint gold medallists at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

The day’s paddling will start with the semi-finals in the women’s K1 200m, K2 500 and the men’s C2 1000m and k1 1000m, culminating in the finals.

Who should I expect to see?

New Zealand's Lisa Carrington will go in search of a rare Olympic Games treble in the women's kayak single 200m. Carrington won gold in the women's kayak single 200m at London 2012 and Rio 2016.

Rio 2016 runner up Marta Walczykiewicz of Poland and Denmark's Emma Aastrand Jorgensen's are among Carrington's biggest competition.

In the men's C2 1000m, Germany will be the team to beat as they attempt to win their sixth gold medal in the event. Germany has won gold in the event in five of the last seven Olympic Games.

Defending world champions Maryna Litvinchuk and Volha Khudzenka will aim to win the first Olympic gold medal for Belarus in women's canoe sprint in the women's K2 500m.

The men's K1 1000 has a stacked field that includes three world champions – reigning champion Balint Kopasz of Hungary, Portugal's Fernando Pimenta, and Rio silver medallist Josef Dostal of the Czech Republic.
