Golf superstar Tiger Woods has reinforced his desire for Olympic glory.

The American, who won his 15th major title at the Masters in April, has stressed in an interview with Reuters that "making the Olympic team is a big goal" for him.

"The game has become so global, and so reaching, that I think the Olympic Games is a great extension of that and I'd like to be a part of it." - Tiger Woods to Reuters

Woods who reached world number one for the first time in 1997, just a year after turning pro, has been plagued by back injuries which has kept him away from the golf course at various stages of his career.

He underwent four back surgeries between 2014 and 2017 which kept him out of contention when the sport made a return to the Olympic Games in Rio after a 112-year absence.

"I don't see myself having too many opportunities other than next year.
"Four years from now, at the next Olympic Games, I'll be 48-year-old. To be one of the top Americans at that age is going to be tough.

"I went to my first Olympic Games when it was in Los Angeles (in 1984) so now to have the opportunity to be a part of the Olympics, because golf in my lifetime wasn't a part of the Olympics, is an important aspect for us and the growth of the game," Woods told Reuters.

Woods is set to compete in `The Challenge: Japan Skins' on 21 October which should give him a more recent feel for playing in golf-crazy Japan.

Woods has also confirmed that he will be publishing an autobiography.

Since being a teenager, he has led a life in the public eye but now he intends to detail both the public and private courses of his life in a memoir entitled "BACK."

"This book is my definitive story. It’s in my words and expresses my thoughts. It describes how I feel and what’s happened in my life. I’ve been working at it steadily, and I’m looking forward to continuing the process and creating a book that people will want to read." - Tiger Woods
