Tiger Woods lived the dream many professional athletes would love by competing alongside his son Charlie at the exhibition invitational PNC Championship golf tournament.

Golf is evidently something that runs in the family, with the 15-year-old Charlie even sinking a hole-in-one from 178 yards out in the event, which featured current and former pros competing with a parent or child over 36 holes.

But a near-perfect performance from Bernhard Langer and son Jason meant that the Woods duo had to settle for the runner-up spot.

“For us to have that experience together… I know we didn’t win, but it was the fact that we competed,” Tiger said.

“No one really made a mistake out there, we had to earn it and that’s what you want to have.

”Hats off to Langers — they played amazing.”

Despite a career built on his competitiveness, one that has taken him to the very top of the sport, Tiger was keen to emphasise what the weekend's competition was all about.

“This is all about family,” he added.

“This is about bonding and it’s about having a great time together and we did that. This is the thrill of a lifetime for us to be able to experience this together.”

For his teenage son, it is the highlight of a career still in its infancy.

But wherever golf takes him next, he is sure to look back on moments like this among his favourite memories.

“It was awesome, it’s the most fun I’ve ever had,” the high schooler said.

“On top of that I made an ace… I can’t top that.”
