Jamaica’s Tia Clayton stormed to victory in the women’s 100m final at the 2024 Silesia Diamond League on Sunday (25 August).

Clayton triumphed with a personal best of 10.83s, improving on her own record by 0.03 seconds which she recorded just two months ago.

The rising star pipped Marie-Josee Ta-Lou Smith of Cote D’Ivoire to the victory with a photo finish after recording an identical time of 10.83s.

USA’s Tamari Davis finished third in 10.84.

With many of the big names including Sha’Carri Richardson and Julien Alfred absent from the latest meet in Poland, Sunday’s race was up for grabs.

After an even start among the nine competitors, the top three broke away where it was just too close to call until the final 20 metres. In the end, Clayton won by a whisker.

In fact, Clayton, Lou-Smith and Davis, who made up the final podium, were separated by just one-thousandth of a second in an enticingly tight race.

The rest of the field did not get within 0.2 seconds of the top three, who dominated and deserved their accolades in Silesia.

This is Clayton’s first Diamond League win, fresh off the back of her Olympic debut where she competed in two finals at Paris 2024. The 20-year-old is enjoying an impressive track season, recording two personal bests in a standout season.
