Threepeat for Swedish equestrian team at European jumping championships with Paris 2024 quotas also awarded
Ireland and Austria claimed second and third, respectively, with Austria also securing an Olympic quota spot for Paris 2024 along with Spain and Switzerland at the continental championships taking place in Milan, Italy.
Sweden were unstoppable at the FEI Jumping European Championship 2023 in Milan on Friday (1 September) to secure the title ahead of Ireland in second and Austria, third.
That makes it three consecutive gold medals for the Swedes at the championships to add to their Olympic and world titles, with Jens Fredricson on Markan Cosmopolit the last combination to go to secure gold. The Stockholm-born rider also leads the individual event which concludes on Sunday (3 September).
Ireland, led by Michael Blake, ended their campaign just two fences behind Sweden, while Austria not only claimed a Jumping Team medal at the Europeans for the first time ever, but with it, secured a team quota spot for Paris 2024.
Spain and Switzerland obtained the other two qualification spots on offer this week, after finishing fifth and sixth, respectively.
They join eight other European nations who have secured places at the Games.
France have a spot as hosts, with Sweden, Netherlands, Great Britain and Germany securing their berths courtesy of their finishing positions at the 2022 World Championships, while Belgium obtained their quota via the 2022 Jumping Nations Cup Final and Israel and Poland, a Group C qualification event in July.
Overnight leaders Germany struggled following the withdrawal of Marcus Ehning after he announced that Stargold had a slight niggle and they would not be starting. His team finished just off the podium in fourth.

As National Olympic Committees have the exclusive authority for the representation of their respective countries at the Olympic Games, athletes' participation at the Paris Games depends on their NOC selecting them to represent their delegation at Paris 2024.
