Coco Gauff is back to defend her US Open title at the home tournament from 26 August to 8 September 2024.
The first Grand Slam since the Olympic Games Paris 2024 brings the world's best tennis players to the hard courts of New York and the Arthur Ashe Stadium. Gauff won her first Grand Slam here in 2023. A year later, she arrives as third seed and with a point to prove.
The 20-year-old comes off the back of a challenging Olympic Games, where she was knocked out in the women’s singles draw in the third round by eventual silver medallist Donna Vekic of Croatia.
She was also eliminated from the women’s doubles and mixed doubles in the second round and quarter-final stage, respectively. But now Gauff is back in her happy place, the grounds she attended as a child, triumphed on as a global star and returns to as the defending champion.
Gauff opens her campaign against France's Varvara Gracheva at the Arthur Ashe Stadium on Monday (26 August).
World No.1 Iga Swiatek and 2023 finalist Aryna Sabalenka will no doubt prove tough competitors in the next rounds, should Gauff advance. The next best-ranked USA woman Jessica Pegula is also aiming to improve on her quarter-final best.
Paris 2024 gold medallist Zheng Qinwen comes to the US Open on top of the world after her stunning victory at Roland-Garros, to add to what is sure to be a fascinating competition in the women’s singles draw.
