Sport climbing makes its debut as an Olympic sport at the Buenos Aires 2018 Youth Olympic Games.
A total of 40 athletes will compete in two events: the men's combined and the women's combined.
It's the first chance for the sport to make its mark at the Olympic level, ahead of its inclusion at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
Sport climbing basics
Like many of the sports at Buenos Aires 2018, there will be an equal number of male and female athletes — 20 men and 20 women.
Normally, there are three forms of the sport: bouldering, lead, and speed.
Bouldering involves solving as many climbing routes as possible on a 4.5-metre wall in the fewest number of attempts over an allocated period of time.
Competitors have six minutes to climb as high as possible on a set route in a single attempt on a 15-metre wall in lead.
And in speed, two athletes go head-to-head to see who reaches the top of a 15-metre-high wall first.
But in Argentina, athletes will compete in all three disciplines to score points towards a combined event.
Competition format
Each of the 20 athletes in the two events will compete in all three disciplines in qualification.
They will score points based on their performances, with the top six climbers moving on to the final.
The athletes with the lowest combined points in the final will win. Points are not carried over from qualification to the final.
Only climbers aged 17 or 18 will take part in the Games.
When and where
Sport climbing will take place in Parque Mujeres Argentinas in the Urban Park.
