It’s been a busy few days for India’s athletes, with several of them participating in the Asian Archery Championships and the Syed Modi International Badminton Championships.
Away from the action though, India’s athletes have had plenty to talk about on social media, celebrating a few personal and professional milestones in their career.
Here’s what made headlines this week on social media.
Wedding Season
2014 Commonwealth Games gold-medallist Babita Phogat took to Twitter this give the latest update on her impending wedding with fellow wrestler Vivek Suhag.
The two are set to tie the knot on Sunday (December 1), but the pre-wedding rituals are already underway.
The 30-year-old wrestler posted a few photos of one of those customs with a caption that translated as ‘first ritual of marriage (baan).’
Apart from Babita, Indian tennis player Prajnesh Gunneswaran also got hitched this week, marrying Sudarshana Pai in a private ceremony in Kerala.
Here’s a snap from his wedding ceremony, as shared by the Instagram page of Maharashtra Open.

There were further marriage updates as tennis star Divij Sharan shared a snap of his wedding.
Sharan tied the knot with fellow tennis player Samantha Murray in a Christian ceremony shortly after Wimbledon 2019. Nearly four months later, the duo have now decided to have an Indian style wedding, with both of them decked in traditional attire.
Slaying on social
The recent trend on social media has been the ‘going to tell my kids…’ posts, with many using that format to publish hilarious photos on their timelines.
Indian goalkeeper PR Sreejesh also joined that bandwagon with a Hockey India photo on his Instagram, carrying the caption ‘Going to tell all the kids in the world this is a wall.’ The Indian shot-stopper cheekly reposted that image with his own caption ‘Going to show my kids this post!'
Snowy terrain
The Indian men’s tennis team is currently in Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan, playing their Davis Cup match against Pakistan.
Apart from the opposition, it is also the chilly weather of Kazakhstan that the Indian tennis players will be concerned about, as exemplified by this Instagram post from veteran star Leander Paes.
Sporting honours
Earlier on Thursday (28 November), the sports ministry of India honoured India’s top athletes, conferring Bajrang Punia with the Khel Ratna award, while handing out the prestigious Arjuna Award to Muhammed Anas and Tejinder Pal Singh Toor.
The Sports Minister of India, Kiren Rijiju, posted photos of the ceremony on his Twitter page, celebrating India’s athletes.
