British snowboard queen Mia Brookes left the best for last, producing the highest score on her third and final run for her second FIS World Cup Big Air victory of the 2024/25 season in Klagenfurt, Austria on Sunday (5 January).

Brookes earned a superb 95.75 for her cab 1440 melon trick to leapfrog World Cup leader Fukada Mari of Japan to the top of the podium. The Briton won the competition with a score of 184.25, with Fukada (182.25) finishing second. Suzuki Momo took third for her first World Cup podium.

Fukada laid down the early marker with a superb score of 93.50 with a switch-back double 1260 drunk driver to take an early lead over local hero Anna Gasser.

The 18-year-old sensation strengthened her position at the top of the standings with a second-run score of 88.75.

Double Olympic champion Gasser went into the final run in third place but was pushed into fifth as her final effort proved not good enough for her to stay on the podium on home snow.

Dropping in as the penultimate snowboarder, Brookes again demonstrated her steely temperament with the best run score of the day with her final attempt. Brookes did the same at the last World Cup event in Beijing at the beginning of December.

In the men’s competition, reigning world champion Hasegawa Taiga took the lead after the second round of tricks and held on to the top spot winning with a combined total of 179.75.

Norway’s Oyvind Kirkhus took the early lead with a stunning switch back double rodeo 1260 nosegrab for the best run score of the night.

But reigning world champion Hasegawa knocked Kirkhus off his perch receiving a 90-point score with a front 1800 indy.

The 19-year-old Hasegawa’s first two scores proved good enough to hand him the fourth big air World Cup victory of his career and second of the season.

Italy’s Ian Matteoli captured the second step on the podium with a score of 175.25 and trails World Cup leader Hasegawa by 19 points on the overall season’s standings.
