The Danish shuttler Anders Antonsen continued his impressive run at the Singapore Open 2023, as he knocked out world number 42 Chia Hao Lee of Chinese Taipei 12-21, 21-13, 21-11 in the quarter-finals on Friday (9 June).
It is the first badminton tournament in two months for the 26-year-old Dane, who has been struggling with an injury. Antonsen has yet to feature in a men's singles final this year but has now qualified for his third semi-final.
The 2019 European champion will next face Japan's Kodai Naraoka, who breezed past Shi Yu Qi of the People's Republic of China 21-14, 21-16.
Anthony Sinisuka Ginting will face Kunlavut Vitidsarn in the other men's semi after both won their Friday matches.
Chinese shuttler Chen Yu Fei is set to meet world number one Yamaguchi Akane of Japan in the semi-finals in the women’s singles. Chen progressed by defeating Supanida Katethong in straight games 21-18, 21-15. Yamaguchi beat Aya Ohori 21-18, 19-21, 21-16 in an all-Japanese quarter-final.
The other women’s singles semi-final will be between world number two An Se Young of the Republic of Korea and world number three Tai Tzu Ying of Chinese Taipei.
Semi-finals in all the singles and doubles events take place on Saturday.
