Singapore Open badminton 2022, live streaming: PV Sindhu, Saina Nehwal and Kidambi Srikanth in fray
HS Prannoy and B Sai Praneeth are also competing at the BWF Super 500 event. Watch live!
Top Indian badminton players PV Sindhu and Saina Nehwal will look to rediscover their lost touch while Kidambi Srikanth will be making a comeback at the Singapore Open 2022 starting on Tuesday.
PV Sindhu, who had been drawn against the world’s top-10 players in the opening rounds of her last three BWF events, has an easier path till the semi-finals this time.
PV Sindhu, seventh in the badminton world rankings, will take on world No. 36 Lianne Tan of Belgium in the first round.
However, former world champion PV Sindhu may run into Tokyo 2020 silver medallist Tai Tzu Ying in the semi-finals.
PV Sindhu hasn’t gone past the quarter-final stage since finishing third at the Thailand Open in May. She is seeded third at the Singapore Open 2022.
Saina Nehwal, meanwhile, has failed to progress beyond the second round this year. The London 2012 bronze medallist will take on compatriot Malvika Bansod in the opening round.
The two Indian badminton players had met at the India Open earlier this year with Malvika Bansod coming out as the winner in straight games against the former world No. 1 Saina Nehwal in a second-round clash.
India’s men’s singles challenge at the Singapore Open will be led by world championships silver medallist Kidambi Srikanth and Thomas Cup hero HS Prannoy. World championships bronze medallist B Sai Praneeth is also in the fray.
Kidambi Srikanth had skipped the Malaysian leg of the BWF tournaments.
Lakshya Sen, India’s top-ranked men’s player, and men’s doubles pair Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty have pulled out of the event.
The Singapore Open 2022 will be held at Singapore Indoor Stadium till July 17. The event is returning to the BWF calendar after a two-year hiatus due to COVID-19.
