Shubhankar Sharma impresses at Scottish Open golf
The Indian golfer is tied 13th after two rounds while Gaganjeet Bhullar missed the cut at the Renaissance Club.
Indian golfer Shubhankar Sharma enjoyed a fine outing at the Scottish Open Golf Championships carding five-under 137 on aggregate to make the cut for the weekend on Friday.
Managing a one-under 70 in the opening round, the 24-year-old golfer was in fine touch at the Renaissance Club as five birdies and an eagle propelled him to tied-13th on the leaderboard.
Meanwhile, the other Indian in the fray, Gaganjeet Bhullar, struggled with his irons as an eight-over 150 on aggregate saw him miss the cut.
Australian Lucas Herbert led the pack with a commendable show as he followed up his opening round 66 with a six-under 65 for a one stroke lead over England’s Robert Rock.
At the European Tour event, Shubhankar Sharma started the first round on the backfoot, carding a bogey in the second hole, but managed two birdies to finish the opening day on one-under 70.
It was Shubhankar Sharma’s best start since February when he carded two-under 68 at the Saudi International.
Sharma ensured that he didn’t let the momentum slip as he turned to the course with vigour to build on his first-round performance.
A bogey in the first and the fourth holes were the only downside to Shubhankar Sharma’s otherwise flawless round which saw him score brides at the fifth, sixth, seventh and the eighth holes.
The highlight of the day came on the back nine when Sharma managed an eagle on the par-five 16th to climb the leaderboard.
10 bogeys sink Gaganjeet Bhullar
Meanwhile, Sharma's compatriot Gaganjeet Bhullar had a nightmare start to his Scottish Open campaign as he carded five bogeys in the first 12 holes. He sunk two birdies thereafter but a triple bogey on the 18th meant he finished the opening round six-over 77.
Bhullar did better in the second round, but his two birdies were overshadowed by four bogeys as he finished two-over 73.
