Scott Moir announces new challenge: coaching the next generation of skaters
The three-time Olympic gold medallist will serve as head coach at new I.AM location in southwestern Ontario

There's nothing better than learning from the best.
And that's what up-and-coming figure skaters in southwestern Ontario, Canada, will have the opportunity to do, as three-time Olympic gold medallist Scott Moir begins a new role as head coach and managing director of a second Ice Academy of Montreal (I.AM) location.
“For me, training at I.AM for two years was a dream come true. The environment was truly spectacular," Moir said in a Facebook post announcing the new location and his new job. "Not only does it provide you with a platform to allow you to reach your potential as [an] athlete but I.AM has also created an environment where all athletes thrive personally, as individuals.
Because of our team at I.AM we were able to achieve our goals at the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics by winning our second Olympic title and recapture our love for the craft of figure skating."
Moir and long-time skating partner Tessa Virtue won their second ice dance Olympic gold medal in 2018. Their first title came at the 2010 Vancouver Games.
In addition to their ice dance titles, they helped Team Canada to gold in 2018. The duo also picked up two silver medals at Sochi 2014 in the ice dance and team competitions.
Together, they are the most decorated Canadian ice dance team in history and the most decorated Olympic figure skaters. The duo announced their retirement from competition in 2019.
“Now that my competitive career is done, I am looking forward to giving young local, Canadian and, hopefully soon, international skaters, the opportunity to reach their potential at a World-class skating academy,” said Moir. “As a coach, I am committed to not only developing well-rounded athletes but also good human beings.
"For some, sport is just a short chapter of their lives so I am excited to help athletes develop many life skills that they can take with them on their next chapter,” he added.
The announcement comes exactly one year before the start of Beijing 2022. The next Winter Olympic Games begin on 4th February 2022.
