Team Mouat - Beijing 2022 Olympic silver medallists, as Great Britain - skipped by Bruce Mouat - world silver medallists in 2021 won the 2023 World Men’s Curling Championship for Scotland on Sunday (9 April).
Scotland defeated hosts Canada 9-3 in the decider in Ottawa to bring home their nation's first men's world gold since 2009.
Mouat was in unstoppable form as his youthful side jumped out to an early lead and never looked back.
"That was unreal!" Mouat told the World Curling Federation. "I didn’t expect the final to go that way, but I’m just so proud of everyone who’s been part of our team, I’m over the moon.
"It was amazing. We shot the lights out. We knew we needed an A+ game to win a world final and that’s what we said this morning.
"It’s been an absolute pleasure to play in front of this crowd. I’m going to remember this for the rest of my life, not just this world title, but the atmosphere that was created in there, it’s giving me goosebumps, I’m very excited."
On Saturday, Canada ended Niklas Edin and Sweden's hopes of a fifth consecutive world title in the qualification round before defeating Switzerland in the semi-finals.
Earlier in the day, Swiss skip Yannick Schwaller, going for his first global medal in his second World Championship appearance, led his side to a dominant 11-3 victory over Italy to claim bronze.
