Indian football heavyweights West Bengal and Kerala will lock horns in the Santosh Trophy 2024-25 final at the GMC Balayogi Athletic Stadium in Hyderabad on New Year’s Eve, Tuesday.
The West Bengal vs Kerala Santosh Trophy final is scheduled to start at 7:30 PM Indian Standard Time (IST). Live streaming and telecast will be available.
Santosh Trophy is India’s premier football competition for states and union territories. Now in its 78th edition, it is the national championship of India and is organised by the All India Football Federation (AIFF).
Both West Bengal and Kerala reached the final undefeated, each playing 10 matches on their way to the summit clash with identical records of nine wins and one draw.
However, Kerala have appeared stronger in attack, scoring 35 goals while West Bengal have netted 27.
Kerala will look to ride on the success of Naseeb Rahman, Muhammad Ajsal and Sajeesh E in front of the goal. Meanwhile, West Bengal have been reliant on their forwards Robi Hansda and Naro Hari Shrestha in this tournament.
West Bengal are the record 32-time Santosh Trophy champions while Kerala are seven-time winners.
Overall in the Santosh Trophy, the two teams have gone head-to-head on 32 occasions. West Bengal have won 15, Kerala nine and the remaining eight matches have been stalemates. However, Kerala have had the edge in recent times, winning the 2017-18 and the 2021-22 titles by defeating West Bengal in the final.
West Bengal (formerly Bengal) entered the Santosh Trophy final for the 47th time after beating Services 4-2 at the same venue while Kerala smashed Manipur 5-1 to make their 16th final.
