Sanjeev Rajput clinches gold in men's 50m Rifle 3 Positions national trials

Rajput stamped his authority on the national selection trials with his third win in four events held this year

India’s Sanjeev Rajput finished ninth in the qualification round of the 50m Rifle 3 Position

Tokyo-bound sport shooter Sanjeev Rajput continued on his fine run in the national selection trials as he clinched a gold medal in the men's 50m Rifle 3 Positions T4 in New Delhi on Friday.

This was Rajput's third win in four trial events held this year.

The two-time Olympian shot his best qualification score of 1182 to advance to the eight-man final in pole position. Madhya Pradesh-based Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar, a Tokyo Olympic quota holder, also displayed a brilliant run as she shot an impressive 1181.

Rajput was a notch above his fellow shooters in the final event as he ended with a season-high score of 463.1. Niraj Kumar, meanwhile, finished second with 459.6.

World No. 1 Elavenil Valarivan also continued to impress in the women's 10m Air Rifle event as she clinched the T4 trials with a final round score of 251.6. She also led the qualification round with a score of 632.1, just 1.9 off the world record mark.

Tokyo-bound Yashaswini Deswal also clinched victory on the day as she shot 242.9 in the women's 10m Air Pistol.

Seasoned competitor Shweta Singh, representing ONGC, finished at the second spot with 240.6 while Tokyo Olympics quota holder and T3 trials winner Manu Bhaker finished seventh in the final.

Delhi-based Arpit Goel clinched victory in the men's 25m Rapid Fire Pistol T4 final shoot-out with a score of 30. Adarsh Singh finished at the second spot with 29 while Vijayveer Sidhu was third with 25 hits.
